The concept of Mixed Media is a simple one. Whenever an artist chooses to work in two or more mediums, the work is considered 'mixed media.' The class will cover an array of various approaches to this technique. Drawing and painting skills are helpful, but not required, whereas a willingness to try something new and different is. Some of the ideas we'll approach are 2 or 3 drawing or painting materials of student's choice. What then is the right combination needed to maximize mixed media effect. For instance: If a student wanted to use pencil or pen, and watercolor, what's the best approach? Or for instance, a student wants to combine acrylic with oil. How do we proceed for best results? The class will also cover assemblage/collage, as well as types of paper, liquid mediums, perhaps the use of cloth, wood, and found objects. Inventiveness is the key to the enjoyment of Mixed Media.
