Protect the desert and promote its beauty while creating new potential from old plastic! Learn methods to safely and easily transform discarded plastic bag waste into a versatile art material. Use the desert and its inhabitants as inspiration to create artwork from laminated HDPE #2 plastic bags that would otherwise end up in a landfill. Students will learn to use a household clothes iron, soldering iron and an embossing heat gun tool to shape and sculpt the laminated plastic material we will make in class. The laminated plastic sheets can be sewn together and also painted upon. Students will be able to design their own artwork or create from a provided design template.
