This piece is one of a series of “Tools of the Trade”.  Others were done featuring other artistic materials. A close-up shot of reality, showing the textures, refraction of light and details in all their glory is a favorite personal challenge. So this colorful piece provided the challenges of the refractions and reflections in the glass and the texture of the pencil shavings. Watercolor is my professional medium and perhaps my favorite as well. Compared to much of my subject matter, this is a very happy piece with lots of color!
