Where the Dersert Meets the Sea
August 13 - October 24, 2021
Baldwin Gallery
The Sonoran Desert wraps itself around the northern end of the Sea of Cortez from Baja California to southwestern and southern Arizona, to western and central parts of Sonora Mexico.
The Sea of Cortez harbors a rich marine ecosystem as diverse and spectacular as any on Earth. Its protected waters harbor thousands of fish and mammal species, as well as some 5,000 species of micro-invertebrates. In addition to a wide range of endemic creatures, the Sea of Cortez also hosts many migratory species. More than 900 islands dot the landscape and play a crucial role in the survival of thousands of seabirds.
The photographs of Pilar Salido and Carlos Navarro, 2 renowned naturalists and photographers, strongly illustrate the wild beauty of the Sea of Cortez and the surrounding desert. Their work powerfully demonstrates why conservation of this environment is critical. Through their creative vision and the medium of photography, each vista, sunset and species tells a rich story worth knowing and preserving.
