Don't be intimidated by oils or portraits. Instructor Sylvia Shanahan will take you step by step through the process of oil portraiture. You'll learn basic anatomy of the head and features through drawing and sketching, best ways to paint from a photograph when a model isn't available, getting a likeness, color palettes for skin, creating personality in portraits and more. (In 2020-2021, Shanahan volunteered her talents to Faces Not Numbers, a group of artists who painted portraits of pandemic victims in an attempt to help soothe the pain of those they left behind. The portraits were gratis except for postage. She created over 40 portraits. )
