Selected Works by Joanna Taylor

The Heart of Place

January 17 - March 8, 2026

Reception: Fri, January 16, 3-5 pm

Baldwin Gallery

Joanna Taylor creates from memory, imagination, and emotion, crafting folk-inspired works that blend home, history, and the natural world. A self-taught artist working in painting, collage, textiles, and book arts, she builds her own “art supplies” by carving stamps, sewing, and gathering natural materials: soil, plant dyes, even water from lakes and rivers to create “earth notes” on paper and cloth. Her subjects include family, pets, places, wildlife, and memory, often stitched together through narrative, research, and reverie. In her words, “We are all a part of my art pieces… present, past, and future generations.” This selection -- spanning paintings, artist’s books, and her Sampler Series -- reveals “worlds within worlds,” where handmade details carry intimate meaning. The result is a body of work that preserves what matters: connection, wonder, and the spirit of place.
