Abstracting the landscape means simplifying natural scenes into expressive compositions of color, form, and texture. Instead of copying a literal likeness, experiment with focusing on capturing the emotion, mood, and subjective experience of a place. We will play with placement of the horizon: low horizon to emphasize vast, atmospheric skies while high horizons to focus on earth and ground movement. Learn to utilize transitions of gradation and diffuse shapes to evoke sensations of light and air.  Experiment with intuitive, emotional colors to capture the emotional energy of a scene.  Catherine often refers to her personal paintings as a “Poetry of Landscape”.  Join her to discover how to move from a strict realism to transform a landscape into a personal, interpretive experience.
