Over two exciting days, we will each generate a ""library of ideas”, creating sketchbook “pages"" to use as inspiration and future source imagery! Surrounded by an inspiring array of natural elements and landscape imagery from our Museum archives, learn to simplify natural forms —landscapes, plants, and textures— into unique art by focusing on composition, color, and simplification. Working small (~ 6”x6” or so) in multiples allows us to explore and innovate and work through to new, creative ideas.
Catherine will guide you into an inventive play using spontaneity and whimsy! We will each create a series of intimate works on paper and/or unstretched canvas as we springboard from observed desert patterns and color palette and overcome ""blank-page fear”. Experiment with freely mixing media: combining painting, drawing, simple printing, collage, and stitching etc. (Acrylic, watercolor, inks. No oils.)
This new workshop is designed for book artists and painters, both realistic or abstract, as well as anyone who would like to loosen up, as we explore using lots of color and markmaking and the surprising combining of media! Trust me! This will be a weekend of inspiration and fun!
